Biking to a New Beginning: Ramona's Decade of Discovery and Dedication in Germany

By Hannah Knapp '02

Ramona Marks '02 has been living in Germany for almost ten years now. It all started with a bike tour that she and her husband did one summer. After that, it was a question of where in Europe they would settle down, not if. In 2012, they made the decision to stay in Germany and became residents that year. Because her mother is German, she already felt an affinity for the culture and found it relatively easy to pick up the language—and she also has German citizenship, which made it much easier for her to stay in the country.

For a total of four years, from 2010-2014, they house-sat in various places in Europe during the fall, winter and spring, and bike toured in the summer, before settling down in the village where they've now lived for ten years—and just bought a house! They're planted there now with their two sighthounds.

Ramona has a number of passions that have filled up her time and her bank account during her years abroad. Early on, her bread and butter was being a content creator for website blogs. Now, she works as an editor from the comfort of her new home and proofreads two magazines for one of her clients: "It's a Passion Thing" and the magazine produced for the W Hotel in Rome. She also works in a local museum with a collection that includes village history, archaeology, and contemporary art. Recently, she started teaching kundalini yoga at the local sports club, which is an organization that serves the community (similar to a nonprofit).

Of course, one of Ramona's passions is being our Class President! She wrangles the committees and helps out wherever she can - but her favorite part is getting to be in touch with so many alums. She hopes to see many of you at our 25th reunion!
